Real-life Mario Kart in Tokyo

Do you want to have a real-life experience of being in a Mario Kart race?

You can do it in Tokyo.

There is a tour company called “Maricar Akihabara”.
They let you put on costumes of one of the characters in Mario Kart, then take you on a tour around Tokyo on a kart.

I’ve never been to this tour, but one of my friends has been and she told me it was a surreal experience.

A few things to remember is that there had been critical news articles about this tour, since there were dozens of traffic accidents caused by the drivers of these karts.

I think those accidents were caused not only because the drivers were excited, but also because of different traffic rules in Japan.

For example, we drive on the left side of roads, so you will have to be extra careful when you are making right turns.

Also, Streets in Tokyo are busy and some drivers won’t yield for you.

Keep in mind that it is difficult for large truck drivers to see you on a small kart close to the ground.

You should have fun, of course, but you are on the real public roads and it’s not like inside an amusement park.

That being said, I think you can have a great time, if you remember a few tips mentioned above.

Personally, I would like to give it a try next time I visit Tokyo. Once I do, I will update the post with personal review.

Their official website is here.
